Maldives remains on UK ‘Red List’ despite improvements

Despite efforts by Maldives state, the country is still on UK Red List

Despite the recent improvements in the island nation of Maldives against Covid-19 pandemic, the country finds itself still on the ‘Red List’ of United Kingdom.

The UK ‘Red List’ is a list based on severity of Covid-19 cases in other destinations outside the European nation.

According to UK, citizens of the countries under the ‘Red List’ have been completely restricted from entering the European nation while those who have traveled to said Red List countries will be allowed entry into UK, only if they are British or Irish nationalities.

Moreover, individuals holding residence rights in the UK are among those who are given exemptions on the entry restrictions.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Maldives had found itself on the list despite fresh impetus by the island nation’s state on curbing the viral contagion, over the lack of facilities to test the new Covid-19 variants.

The decision will inexplicably maintain the status quo of British holidaymakers not visiting Maldives until such time comes when the island nation is moved to the ‘Green List.’
