    Maldives attracts over 700K tourist arrivals so far in 2021

    According to the latest updates from Ministry of Tourism, the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives as of 18th August 2021 reached 700,594.

    Maldives tourism industry has collectively been recovering from the strong economical dent felt during 2020 over the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in the island nation. Though the industry as a whole have yet to make stronger strides, the tourist arrivals so far has already exceeded the annual total of last year.

    In 2020, the total tourist arrivals stood at just 555,494 by December’s end.

    Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism reports a total tourist arrival of 88,227 from 1st to 18th of August whereas the total arrival during the corresponding period in 2020 stood at just 4,483.

    Furthermore, tourism growth in 2021 compared with the same period last year has observed an increment of 1,868.0% in August. However, when compared with the figures of 2019, there is still no improvement – in fact its still at a negative 2.6%.

    Meanwhile, the daily average of tourist arrivals so far in August stood at 4,902 while the average duration of stay is 9.7 days.

    Russia maintains top spot as the top single market to Maldives with a year-to-date arrival count of 154,380 so far which is 22.0% of the tourist market share. India follows closely behind with a year-to-date arrival of 132,745 so far with a market share of 18.9% and Germany along with USA were ranked at third and fourth spot respectively.

    So far total tourist arrivals from Germany to Maldives reached 39,948 with a market share of 5.7% and tourist arrivals from USA to the island nation stands at 28,558 so far with a market share of 4.1%.
