    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceed 80k by late January 2022

    The latest updates from Ministry of Tourism confirm that the total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives as of 19th January reached 82,478.

    Moreover, the arrival count as of the review period is a 48.0% improvement over the same period in 2021 during which the arrival count reached 55,729. However, compared to the same period in 2020 it is still 26.15% below since in 2020 the arrival total by the period stood at 107,288.

    On the other hand, the arrival total for 2022 is 7.73% below pre-pandemic level since the arrival total for the same period in 2019 stood at 89,113.

    Meanwhile the daily arrival average has been recorded at 4,341 while average duration of stay is currently at 9.1-days.

    Russia maintains top source market spot with 16,616 arrivals so far which is 20.1% of the total number of arrivals to the country, United Kingdom has replaced Italy to become the second strongest source market with 7,544 arrivals so far which is 9.1% of the total arrivals.

    Italy is currently at third spot with 7,027 arrivals so far which is 8.5% of the total arrivals while India is at fourth rank with 6,657 arrivals as of 19th January which is 8.1% of the total arrivals while Germany which had held third rank consistently during previous weeks is currently on fifth spot with 6,131 arrivals so far which is 7.4% of the total arrivals.
