    Maldives tourist arrivals hit 1.46m, S. Korea lands 9th top market spot

    Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 1.46 million by late November 2022

    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceeded 1.46 million in annual terms, as of 23rd November 2022.

    According to Maldives Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals by the review date reached a total of 1,456,170 in annual terms. This marks a 29.8% annual increment, compared to the same period last year. In 2021, by the same review date, tourist arrivals reached 1,122,245 in annual terms.

    On the other hand, the annual arrival total in 2022 is still 2.8% below the same period in 2019, during which arrivals were recorded at 1,497,599.

    Looking at arrivals to the Maldives exclusively from 01st November until 23rd November, the country recorded a total of 111,813 arrivals. This was a mild 2.3% increment from the same period in 2021, during which arrivals were at 109,317. Furthermore, this arrival so far in November 2022, was a 7.5% increase from the same period in 2019, during which arrivals stood at 103,981.

    The top five source markets remained unchanged in their rankings, but the bottom five indicated a slight change. Switzerland, which was ranked ninth has slipped down to the tenth spot, whereas the previous tenth ranker, South Korea, has moved up ninth spot.
