The highest single-day arrival of tourists was recorded on Saturday, 11th February 2023.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the total number of tourist arrivals on Saturday was recorded at 8,028. The previous highest single-day arrivals in 2023 were recorded on 22nd January, at 7,009. Meanwhile, the average daily arrival so far in 2023 is 5,729.
Moreover, the previous all-time high in single-day arrivals was recorded last year on 12th February with 7,768 arrivals.
The total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives as of 11th February 2023 reached 240,621; which is a 32.2% increment compared to the same period last year, during which arrivals stood at 182,067. Tourist arrivals from 01st to 11th February exclusively stood at 68,085, which is a 35.4% increase compared to the same period in 2022, which stood at 50,302.
As of the review date, Russia is ranked first among the top ten markets in the Maldives with 30,983 arrivals. India is ranked a close second with 26,325 arrivals so far in 2023 while the United Kingdom is in the third spot with 22,600 arrivals. Italy is currently ranked four with 21,949 arrivals while Germany, which had remained consistently in the fifth spot throughout last year, continues to rest in the same rank with 15,233 arrivals so far.
Some noticeable changes in arrivals to the Maldives this year include the resumption of the Chinese market. As of the review date, arrivals from China stood at 5,780 and are currently ranked eighth. Additionally, Poland, which is a relatively new market to take a spot in the top ten list, had replaced South Korea in the tenth spot.
As of 11th February, the Maldives has 1,217 registered tourist properties. Out of this total, 1,213 are currently operational which contributes to 59,896 beds. The country currently has 168 tourist resorts, 13 hotels, 880 guesthouses, and 152 safari vessels.
