The Bank of Maldives (BML) has cautioned customers once again in light of a resurgence in scam calls recently.
BML said that recently several individuals have been getting dubious calls claiming they have won flats or apartments. The bank cautioned against such calls, and urged its customers and the public against divulging personal information and banking details.
Public Relations Manager, BML, Mohamed Saeed said that current reports state that many have already received calls on the pretext of awarding flats. The caller usually pretends to represent notable agencies or corporations.
Saeed also said that cases of unreceived goods from online pages after the customer has paid, are also becoming prevalent. He further said that the bank has already received several complaints of customers not receiving the items they paid for, from online pages.
“We have received complaints that many of these customers had paid for items [on sites] and had their contact numbers blocked [by the page operator]. Most of these buyers do not have any other information about such pages, and they don’t even know who they are trading with,” Saeed said.
He further said that many customers have shared their email addresses and One Time Passwords (OTPs) with these websites, which are details that should not be disclosed to any third party including the bank.
