    Tourist arrivals to the Maldives 168k short of reaching 1 millionth arrival mark

    The tourist arrivals to the Maldives has reached an annual total of 832,169 as of 6th June 2023.

    As per the latest updates from the Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals to the Maldives has shown strong momentum this year with annual arrivals only 167,831 short of hitting the coveted 1 millionth mark.

    The statistics showed that the arrivals so far has observed a 14.7% increment compared to the same period in 2022, during which arrivals stood at 725,725.

    Meanwhile, tourist arrivals exclusively from 1st to 6th June experienced a slight drop of 2%. This year, the total number of arrivals during the said period stood at 22,918 whereas in the same period last year, the arrivals stood at 23,393.

    The daily tourist arrival average in annual terms is at 5,475 while the highest daily arrival average was observed in February, at 6,354 and the lowest recorded in May at 3,902.

    In addition to this, the average duration of stay in annual terms is at 7.8 days while the highest average duration of stay was observed in January at 8.1 days.

    1. India: 97,568
    2. Russia: 97,109
    3. UK: 74,605
    4. Germany: 61,674
    5. Italy: 61,092
    6. China: 48,668
    7. USA: 34,213
    8. France: 29,450
    9. Switzerland: 19,311
    10. South Korea: 15,572

    Top 10 source markets have observed a noticeable change as India has replaced Russia to become the top market of the year. Even so, Russia is not too far behind.

    On the other hand, China’s entry into the top 10 markets comes after a near 3-year absence since the country began its outbound travel operations in 2023.
