Maldives’ fish is an expensive commodity in the world in terms of quality and sustainable fishing practices, said the General Manager of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) Muaz Ali.

While speaking to a program aired by PSM News, Muaz said that MIFCO is seeking potential international avenues where Maldivian fish products can be sold at premium prices.

MIFCO is currently geared to export the first shipment to a high-tier market, where the Maldivian fish will be sold at premium rates.

Muaz said Maldivian fish products were previously challenged with not being sold at its actual price, and added that MIFCO is poised to generate stronger revenue by tapping into premium markets where the commodity can be sold at a higher price than the price at which it was purchased.

He further highlighted that by marketing, promoting and distributing processed and canned fish products, MIFCO stands to add value to the commodities.
