The Ministry of Social and Family Development on Sunday, highlighted its more recent efforts of enhancing employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The efforts, in line with a regulation on the procedure of enhancing employment opportunities to persons with disabilities, are part of government’s comprehensive plan to encourage an inclusive society, rid social stigma and discrimination aimed generally towards the specially abled.

Earlier in March, the ministry signed an MoU with three properties under the Hilton brand in the Maldives – which include Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, and Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort and Spa.

Under the agreement, the properties will conduct vocational training programs for persons with disabilities, teach them relevant skills in the hospitality industry, and facilitate a hands-on experience of the field.

The ministry also signed an MoU with the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), to host an internship program aimed at providing practical training and experience to persons with disabilities and skills development.

Additionally, the state body signed another agreement with Care Society to give career development training.

Besides this, the ministry added it was currently working to sign a similar agreement with Road Development Corporation (RDC) as well. The ministry’s efforts of enhancing career development training for persons with disabilities will also extend to partnerships with private-owned corporations in the future.
