The Maldives Aviation Academy for the first time in the country has started flight simulator training.
The academy is run by Maldives National University (MNU) in collaboration with Island Aviation Services.
MAA was established under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration following several issues tied to the previous flying school; that had rendered it non-operational. The flying school run at Addu had ceased all of its training programs and courses while several of its enrolled students were stuck in limbo.
Meanwhile, the MAA chief Sultan Ramiz said a total of five student-pilots took part in the simulator training. The training was focused on providing the necessary flying hours for the students before becoming certified pilots.
Students are required to complete three hours of simulator training before they become certified pilots.
The academy commenced with its first batch on 10th January 2022. A total of 25 students are currently enrolled in the academy; which also includes former flying school students who could not complete their course after the previous school was shut down.
MAA also stated that the academy will enroll a new batch in June 2023, while it is currently preparing additional training programs as well.
