The Maldives government has signed a Financing Agreement with the European Union (EU), which would allocate EUR 6.5 million aimed at strengthening the blue economy of the Indian Ocean archipelago.
The agreement was signed during the discussion meeting held between the Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and the Deputy Managing Director of the Asia and Pacific Department of the European External Action Service Paola Pampaloni, held on Sunday.
At the meeting, the two reflected on the significant developments brought forward through the cooperation between the Maldives and the EU.
Minister Zameer expressed gratitude for EU’s comprehensive support, offered for the country’s economy and contributions for climate resilient socioeconomic development in the Maldives. The minister also highlighted the interest of the Maldives government in being included in the list of countries exempt from Schengen visa requirements.
The Deputy Managing Director is currently visiting the Maldives to co-chair the Fifth Maldives – European Union Senior Officials Meeting.
