The Maldives government has contracted China’s CAMC Engineering for the development of an integrated maritime hub in Laamu atoll.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday, between Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) CEO Mohamed Wajeeh and CAMC Engineering’s General Manager Lee Wei Wei. Subsequently, the contract for the development of the maritime hub was signed between the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and Wei Wei.
According to the government, the project will be carried out under six components. This includes;
- Offshore Bunkering
- Super-Yacht Marina
- Eco-Resort
- Transshipment Port
- Cruise Terminal
- Food Storage Facility
MPL gave a presentation at the signing ceremony, which highlighted the cruise terminal will facilitate all the essential services of Maldives Customs and Maldives Immigration. It added the eco-resort will be developed between Laamu atoll Gaadhoo and Fonadhoo, while the super-yacht marina will adhere to internationals service standards.
