Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announces seeking applicants for an architectural design competition.
The competition is focused on designing the tourism island commercial spine – commercial district of the satellite town. HDC further confirms the competition worth MVR1 million, is open for both local and international applicants.
The Commercial Spine, is a new initiative set at the newly developing urban district in Hulhumale’ Phase II. The project includes pedestrian street accommodating all forms of commercial activities.
HDC hopes the initiative will attract commercial magnates, locally and regionally. The project covers seven plots of land in a total area of over 300,000 square meters.
“Tourism Island is positioned to offer something for everyone, offering a range of accommodation, from premium to affordable stays. Tourism Island is located on the north of Hulhumale’, separated from the rest of the city by a water canal and provides two access points via bridges to the island,” HDC said.
The building complexes include retail, food and beverage, dive and watersports centers. Additionally the zone will feature clinics, entertainment facilities, event venues, rooftop pools and workspaces.
Registration for the design competition closes on 12th September 2022.
HDC confirms they will select three finalists. While the second runner-up will win a cash prize of MVR20,000, first runner-up will win MVR30,000 and the winner will take home MVR200,000.
