{"id":10421,"date":"2024-10-26T20:59:08","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T15:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=10421"},"modified":"2024-10-26T20:59:08","modified_gmt":"2024-10-26T15:59:08","slug":"maafaru-airport-reopens-post-runway-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=10421","title":{"rendered":"Maafaru Airport reopens post runway expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maafaru International Airport in Noonu atoll has reopened for international operations after remaining suspended for an expansion project.<\/p>\n<p>International operations were suspended in May last year to redevelop the tarmac, including the expansion of the existing runway from 2.2 kilometers to 2.8 kilometers; ensuring more &#8216;leg room&#8217; for the incoming and outgoing flights at the busy airport.<\/p>\n<p>Island Aviation Services (IAS), which operates the airport confirms the upgraded runway at Maafaru can now accommodate Boeing 777-ER300s.<\/p>\n<p>The airport, which observes a uniquely higher arrival of private jets throughout every year, is also undergoing an initiative to expand its apron, which will double the parking capacity from the current total of 13 aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of personnel, space, and flight movements; Maafaru International Airport is the second largest in the country, after the main air gateway; Velana International Airport.
