Bank of Maldives (BML) on Saturday, 10th July, announced on financially supporting to build a beach shed to enhance the Hulhumale’ beach library – “Foiy Gaadiya”.<\/p>\n

According to BML, they aim to provide a more permanent solution for the beach library from damages sustained during bad-weather days. The beach shed will attempt to shelter the contents of the beach library from such climatic interferences while “making the space more accessible for the community.”<\/p>\n

The project will see the Hulhumale’ beach library receiving a ‘makeover’ in the form of a traditional Maldivian hut – “Haruge” – that will shelter the books from rain or wind.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the beach shed will become the venue for creative activities such as book reading for kids and adults and the venue will be used as a book club as well as an art and craft station. BML further notes the venue will be utilized to host a variety of other educational projects.<\/p>\n

The Hulhumale’ “Foiy Gaadiya” came to inception following the winning proposal to BML’s Community Fund by a local NGO – Children of Maldives. On the purpose of the project, its founders commented “the main focus of Foiy Gaadiya is to grow reading habits in the community through improved access to a variety of books for all ages while creating a space for the community to use.”<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the project was assisted by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) that had supplied additional materials as well as building the beach shed attached to the project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
