The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a probe into the case of missing money from Maldive Gas.<\/p>\n
The money in question had been an advance payment made out to a gas shipment, ACC noted.<\/p>\n
The issue came to light after Parliament’s Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim made comments about the matter during a Public Accounts Committee meeting recently, where he noted the missing money had been an advance payment made out to a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) shipment in October last year.<\/p>\n
Nazim however, did not mention the exact figure.<\/p>\n
ACC’s media official had confirmed the commission had launched an investigation into the matter, but did not provide any further details about the case.<\/p>\n
At the parliament committee meeting, Nazim noted that while the money had gone missing, the shipment for which the payment was supposedly made to, never made it to the Maldives. He further said that the recovery of this money had been to no avail.<\/p>\n
“Because of such incidents, it is prevalent that we check if the company’s procurement and other policies are adherent to PCB regulations,” Nazim added.<\/p>\n
