ABU DHABI, 22nd April 2025 (WAM)<\/strong> \u2014 The third edition of the International Conference on Developments in Autism Research concluded with groundbreaking initiatives and strategic recommendations, marking a significant advancement in the global effort to improve the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).<\/p>\n

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the world\u2019s first specialised scientific award dedicated solely to autism research. This milestone initiative aims to foster the development of evidence-based solutions that enhance the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families. The award provides a prestigious platform to recognise innovative contributions and promote greater global understanding in the field.<\/p>\n

The conference underscored the critical role of artificial intelligence in supporting individuals with ASD. Experts advocated for the development of AI-powered diagnostic and rehabilitative tools, expansion of employment and rehabilitation programs, and integration of curriculum approaches based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and relationship development interventions.<\/p>\n

Gratitude was extended to H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, for his continued patronage of the event. Participants also praised the UAE’s ongoing support for people of determination and acknowledged the Zayed Higher Organization\u2019s pioneering efforts in care and rehabilitation across Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n

Abdullah Abdul Ali Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organization, hailed the success of the conference and emphasized that its outcomes would serve as a foundation for a new phase of joint action and innovation. \u201cThe conference offered a knowledge-rich platform to turn challenges into achievements,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Over the course of the conference, more than 125 speakers\u201454 international and 71 from within the UAE\u2014participated in 63 scientific lectures, 45 specialized workshops, and five panel discussions. Topics covered included the latest in genetics, brain-gut research, neuroimaging, and AI integration in early diagnosis and rehabilitation. Other areas of focus included family empowerment, early intervention, and educational inclusion strategies.<\/p>\n

Al Humaidan revealed a proposal to establish a permanent scientific committee for autism, composed of global experts and researchers. The initiative includes a digital platform for submitting research, therapeutic, and nutritional proposals for evaluation and replication, ensuring data credibility and broader research support.<\/p>\n

Professor Lisa Pratt, Executive Director and Academic President of Fatima College of Health Sciences, expressed deep appreciation to all partners and supporters, especially ADNOC for its continued investment in health education, and the Lotus Center for its organizational excellence.<\/p>\n
