President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives\u2019 commitment to gender equality and digital innovation by spotlighting the critical role of women in shaping the nation’s digital future. In a message marking International Girls in ICT Day 2025<\/strong>, the President stressed that investing in women’s education and professional development in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector is both a social and economic imperative.<\/p>\n

Under this year\u2019s global theme, \u201cGirls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation,\u201d<\/em> President Muizzu emphasised that empowering young women in the digital space will not only promote gender equity but also catalyse inclusive growth and resilience as the country navigates an increasingly tech-driven era.<\/p>\n

The President laid out his administration\u2019s long-term vision for an inclusive environment where girls can pursue quality education, develop competitive digital skills, and confidently enter the technology workforce. He described such empowerment as \u201can investment in the nation\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a central part of this vision, President Muizzu announced a new national initiative titled \u201cWomen in Technology,\u201d<\/strong> which will support female professionals in ICT and digitalisation fields. The scheme is designed to open clear pathways for women and girls across the digital spectrum\u2014from basic skills training to leadership roles in tech industries.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the Maldives’ broader digitalisation roadmap, the President detailed government-led efforts to remove structural barriers and accelerate progress toward a thriving digital economy. These efforts include expanding access to mentorship programs, scholarships, and internships. A key benchmark of the initiative is the annual training of at least 100 women in digital skills and emerging technologies by the end of 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

President Muizzu also paid tribute to female ICT trailblazers in the Maldives, recognising their ongoing contributions and urging them to inspire future generations.<\/p>\n

Earlier today, the President marked the occasion on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, echoing his message of inclusive transformation through technology.<\/p>\n

International Girls in ICT Day<\/strong> is observed every year on the fourth Thursday in April. The day serves as a global call to action, encouraging girls and young women to explore careers and studies in information and communication technology, ensuring a more diverse and dynamic digital future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
