Kuala Lumpur \u2013 His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives witnessed the signing and exchange of several key agreements, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and exchanges of notes (EoNs) between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of Malaysia, aimed at deepening cooperation across a range of sectors.<\/p>\n
One of the major highlights was the signing of an MoU on Cooperation in Sports, inked by His Excellency Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, and Her Excellency Puan Hannah Yeoh, Malaysia\u2019s Minister of Youth and Sports. The agreement seeks to strengthen collaboration between sports organizations, promote the exchange of sporting events, enhance sports facility development, and support the training of athletes and officials. It also includes provisions for cooperation in areas such as anti-doping, sports medicine, and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
In the health sector, Dr Abdulla Khaleel and His Excellency Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Malaysia\u2019s Minister of Health, signed an MoU to boost collaboration in human resource development, improve health service delivery systems, promote health tourism, and enhance health information technology.<\/p>\n
Tourism cooperation was also bolstered with the signing of an MoU between Her Excellency Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, High Commissioner of Maldives to Malaysia, and His Excellency Tuan Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia. The agreement aims to promote and market tourism between the two countries, develop Muslim-friendly tourism products, support community-based and eco-tourism initiatives, and enhance cultural heritage as a foundation for tourism growth.<\/p>\n
Further strengthening diplomatic cooperation, an Exchange of Notes on the Training of Diplomats was signed between Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed and His Excellency Mohamed Alamin, Malaysia\u2019s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. This agreement will facilitate collaboration between the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives and Malaysia\u2019s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations.<\/p>\n
Another Exchange of Notes was signed to establish regular bilateral consultations between the two nations’ foreign ministries. The agreement aims to enhance political, economic, and social cooperation, coordinate on regional and international issues, and strengthen engagement within frameworks such as the United Nations and other international organizations.<\/p>\n
