President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the eradication of corruption as a central objective of the Maldives’ digital transformation efforts, stating that enhanced transparency through digitalisation is key to good governance. He made the remarks during the inaugural session of the Maldives 2.0 Transformation Summit, held at Barcel\u00f3 Nasandhura Mal\u00e9.<\/p>\n
In his address, President Muizzu emphasised the importance of fighting corruption as part of a unified national effort to become a developed nation. He thanked the government of Estonia for its support and inspiration, praising Estonia\u2019s globally recognised success in digital transformation.<\/p>\n
The President noted that digital tools offer powerful means to increase transparency, and cited the government\u2019s ongoing work to introduce a unified, interoperable ID system. This system aims to allow citizens seamless access to both public and private services, underpinned by a robust national cybersecurity framework.<\/p>\n
Pointing to Estonia\u2019s rise to second place in the 2025 World Press Freedom Index, President Muizzu attributed part of that success to the country’s digital advancements. He expressed optimism that Maldives, through responsible and efficient information dissemination, could achieve similar outcomes.<\/p>\n
President Muizzu also highlighted his administration\u2019s broader goals for sustainable and meaningful development. As part of this, he announced a vision to digitally transform the workforce so that by 2028, one-third of the Maldivian workforce would be employed remotely.<\/p>\n
Calling for public support and collaboration, the President reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to building the necessary legal infrastructure to support digital governance. He assured that the Maldives 2.0 initiative\u2014shaped by insights from Estonia\u2014would be tailored to the unique Maldivian context.<\/p>\n
Maldives 2.0 is a signature initiative launched by President Muizzu to drive a reformative digital transformation. It envisions all state institutions working collaboratively to deliver fast, secure, and transparent public services. The three-year roadmap aims to embed digitalisation at the heart of governance and service delivery across the country.<\/p>\n
