{"id":16081,"date":"2025-05-20T02:37:47","date_gmt":"2025-05-19T21:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=16081"},"modified":"2025-05-20T02:37:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T21:37:47","slug":"economic-minister-reaffirms-commitment-to-commercial-port-development-across-maldives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=16081","title":{"rendered":"Economic Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Commercial Port Development Across Maldives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"91\" data-end=\"375\">Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has reiterated the government\u2019s strong commitment to expanding commercial port infrastructure throughout the Maldives, in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"377\" data-end=\"668\">Speaking at the official agreement signing ceremony with <strong data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"466\">Maldives Ports Limited (MPL)<\/strong> for the <strong data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"531\">expansion of the Kulhudhuffushi City Commercial Port<\/strong>, Minister Saeed emphasised that the technical groundwork is already underway to upgrade the port facilities as pledged by the President.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"933\">He noted that discussions have been held with multiple stakeholders to explore ways to maximise the port\u2019s commercial potential, and highlighted that MPL is actively working towards establishing a nationwide logistics network in accordance with government policy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Maldives Ports Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MoEDmv?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MoEDmv<\/a> to officially commence work on the Kulhudhuffushi Port Extension Project.<\/p>\n<p>This milestone marks a significant step toward establishing Kulhudhuffushi as a key logistics hub for the northern atolls\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x4cjLWccwW\">pic.twitter.com\/x4cjLWccwW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Maldives Ports Limited (@Portmv) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Portmv\/status\/1924537432462262363?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1052\">Alongside the Kulhudhuffushi project, the Minister outlined a series of ongoing and upcoming developments, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1295\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1151\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1151\">A signed agreement for the development of a <strong data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1135\">commercial port in Kudahuvadhoo<\/strong>, Dhaalu Atoll<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1232\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1232\">Active discussions to <strong data-start=\"1176\" data-end=\"1211\">redevelop the port in Maamigili<\/strong>, Alif Dhaalu Atoll<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1233\" data-end=\"1295\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1295\">Further plans to <strong data-start=\"1252\" data-end=\"1295\">upgrade ports in Laamu and Seenu Atolls<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1479\">\u201cGod willing, the development of Kulhudhuffushi Port will move ahead rapidly. Once the remaining agreements are finalised, implementation will begin in earnest,\u201d said Minister Saeed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1481\" data-end=\"1702\">The Kulhudhuffushi City Commercial Harbour is being developed as a <strong data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1575\">dedicated logistics hub<\/strong> that will serve <strong data-start=\"1592\" data-end=\"1646\">Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, and Noonu Atolls<\/strong>. The project is being rolled out in phases and aims to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1704\" data-end=\"1872\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1704\" data-end=\"1732\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1706\" data-end=\"1732\"><strong data-start=\"1706\" data-end=\"1730\">Expand port capacity<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1773\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1773\"><strong data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1771\">Modernise cargo handling systems<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1872\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1776\" data-end=\"1872\"><strong data-start=\"1776\" data-end=\"1806\">Improve storage facilities<\/strong> for both general cargo and perishables like fruits and vegetables<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1874\" data-end=\"2107\">The government highlighted that awarding the project to MPL is a critical milestone in creating a <strong data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2008\">scheduled cargo handling network<\/strong> spanning from the northern to the southern regions of the country.
