Mal\u00e9, Maldives \u2013<\/strong> First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called on healthcare professionals, institutions, and communities to take collective action in addressing the growing impact of endometriosis on women\u2019s health in the Maldives. She made the remarks this evening at Dharumavantha Hospital, where she attended as Guest of Honour at the closing of the Workshop Series Episode 3, \u201cEmbracing Wellness: A Holistic and Evidence-Based Approach to Understanding Endometriosis in Light of Current Research,\u201d<\/em> organised by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Maldives (SOGM).<\/p>\n

Opening her address with a firm call to action, the First Lady highlighted that staying informed on the latest research, diagnostic methods, and treatment options is essential for healthcare professionals. She acknowledged the strength of women living with endometriosis, many of whom silently endure chronic pain while balancing professional and domestic responsibilities.<\/p>\n

She drew attention to the significant emotional and physical toll of the condition, often worsened by frequent misdiagnoses and the stigma surrounding menstrual health. Stressing the importance of early detection and compassionate care, she urged healthcare providers to listen attentively to patients and act decisively.<\/p>\n

Commending recent policy advancements, the First Lady welcomed the Government\u2019s decision to expand Aasandha \u2014 the universal healthcare scheme \u2014 to include treatment for endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), describing it as a landmark achievement for equitable access to care.<\/p>\n

She further encouraged healthcare institutions to adopt actionable insights from the workshop, develop a comprehensive national action plan, and integrate menstrual health awareness into school programs. The First Lady also praised SOGM for its ongoing commitment to connecting specialists across the country, fostering collaboration, and improving access to inclusive care.<\/p>\n
