{"id":16743,"date":"2026-03-21T21:33:52","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T16:33:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=16743"},"modified":"2026-03-21T21:33:52","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T16:33:52","slug":"giraavarufalhu-reclamation-on-track-for-april-completion-plot-handovers-to-begin-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=16743","title":{"rendered":"Giraavarufalhu Reclamation on Track for April Completion: Plot Handovers to Begin June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Maldives government&#8217;s land reclamation project at Giraavarufalhu is on course for completion next month, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu confirming that physical handover of plots to beneficiaries will commence in June.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media update issued today, the President said reclamation and surveying work is progressing rapidly and is expected to wrap up entirely in April, clearing the way for the distribution process to begin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Based on current progress, we anticipate that all reclamation and surveying work will be finished in April, allowing us to begin the process of handing over the plots to their owners in June,&#8221; President Muizzu stated.<\/p>\n<h3>Project Scale and Structure<\/h3>\n<p>The Giraavarufalhu development spans a total designated reclamation area of 167.15 hectares, earmarked to address the housing deficit facing residents of the capital, Male&#8217;. The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) began work on the remaining 97.15 hectares in January, with significant portions of the project, structured across three phases, already completed.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 4,072 land plots are slated for distribution, broken down as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2,605 plots of 1,250 square feet<\/li>\n<li>1,213 plots of 1,650 square feet<\/li>\n<li>253 plots of 2,050 square feet<\/li>\n<li>1 plot of 2,450 square feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Revised Land Use Plan Expands Scope<\/h3>\n<p>The current administration has also revised the original Land Use Plan inherited from the previous government, citing insufficient provision for essential public services. Under the updated framework, an additional 113 hectares will be reclaimed, a material expansion of the project&#8217;s footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Following the revision, a re-draw of the plot allocation lottery was conducted for registered beneficiaries, ensuring distributions reflect the updated plan.<\/p>\n<h3>Broader Housing Push<\/h3>\n<p>Giraavarufalhu forms one pillar of a wider government strategy to resolve the Greater Male&#8217; Region&#8217;s longstanding housing shortage.
