The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is hosting an additional round of walk-in interviews tomorrow as it works to complete driver recruitment for the government’s forthcoming public taxi service.<\/p>\n
Candidates are invited to attend at the Maafannu Bus Terminal between 10:00hrs and 16:00hrs.<\/p>\n
The recruitment push follows an earlier hiring session held in January, which drew more than 250 applicants. MTCC has identified a total of 407 driver positions required to bring the service to full operational capacity, comprising 285 full-time roles and 122 part-time positions. With final preparations currently underway, tomorrow’s session reflects the company’s urgency in closing the remaining staffing gap ahead of the service launch.<\/p>\n
The government’s taxi fleet will run entirely on electric vehicles, with dedicated charging infrastructure already in place. The service is designed to operate around the clock and will deploy vehicles across the three size categories to cater to varying passenger requirements, from solo commuters to larger groups.<\/p>\n
Bookings will be managed through a purpose-built mobile application, drawing on the operational model of established global ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Grab. The tech-enabled approach is intended to bring greater reliability, transparency, and convenience to urban mobility in Male’.<\/p>\n
The initiative is framed as a structural response to longstanding public frustrations over inconsistent taxi availability in the capital.
