The government plans to begin handing over land plots in Giravaru Falhu within three weeks. Minister of Construction Dr. Abdulla Muththalib confirmed the target publicly. He stressed that the administration treats the handover as an immediate priority following the conclusion of land reclamation works.<\/p>\n
Reclamation of Giravaru Falhu began in late January. The project has since advanced at a rapid pace. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu personally inspected the site today, accompanied by Minister Muththalib. The visit signals the administration’s commitment to delivering results quickly.<\/p>\n
However, the project has faced planning challenges. When the current administration took office, authorities had already allocated approximately 5,000 plots from Giravaru Falhu.<\/p>\n
The existing Land Use Plan did not support a sustainable urban city. The government therefore revised the Gulhifalhu plan, reallocating a substantial area from port use to residential development. As a result, over 1,100 plots shifted from Giravaru Falhu to Gulhifalhu.<\/p>\n
Despite this initial shortfall, Minister Muththalib reassured all plot recipients. The government will provide land to every recipient, even if additional reclamation becomes necessary.<\/p>\n
“We will complete reclamation within three weeks, run the required surveys, and start the handover. We will open registration as soon as we reclaim the land. As registrations come through and surveys wrap up, we will continue to hand over plots,” the minister stated.<\/p>\n
Beyond land transfer, the government will simultaneously launch installation of water, sewerage, and electricity networks, alongside road construction.
