Mal\u00e9 City Group of Hospitals has launched a strategic push to expand backup power capacity across its facilities.<\/p>\n
CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem confirmed the move, citing the need for more reliable power during outages at the country’s busiest public hospitals.<\/p>\n
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Dharumavantha Hospital already operate backup power systems. However, both hospitals continue to face challenges during city-wide power interruptions. Speaking to PSM News, Haleem explained that the existing systems primarily serve critical areas during outages. As such, broader sections of each hospital remain vulnerable when the main grid falls.<\/p>\n
The CEO noted that the group is working closely with the State Electric Company (STELCO) to address the gap. Together, the two organizations aim to deliver a more sustainable solution to the recurring power challenges.<\/p>\n
IGMH has expanded its services significantly over the past two years. Consequently, electricity consumption at the hospital has climbed sharply. Haleem stressed that the current backup capacity no longer matches the hospital’s operational footprint. The group therefore plans to expand backup capacity and upgrade existing equipment to modern standards.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the initiative extends beyond IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital. The group is also working to resolve power issues across all government healthcare facilities in the Mal\u00e9 region.<\/p>\n
Stakeholders held key discussions earlier this month to address the power challenges at IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital. The meetings focused on two priorities: identifying immediate fixes and shaping long-term strategies between the hospitals and their utility partners.<\/p>\n
IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital serve a large share of the public every day. Therefore, uninterrupted service stands at the top of the group’s agenda. The current initiatives aim to prevent service disruptions during outages and lift the overall reliability of hospital infrastructure.<\/p>\n
