The State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation (State Pharma) Limited is poised to execute a major operational expansion on July 1. State Pharma will be officially absorbing the nationwide retail network currently managed by the State Trading Organization (STO).<\/p>\n
This transition marks a critical step in the government’s strategy to stabilize the national medical supply chain and mitigate persistent pharmaceutical shortages in the Maldives.<\/p>\n
Under the new management framework, State Pharma will assume control of 193 existing STO retail locations. Coupled with the launch of a new flagship pharmacy at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the state enterprise will oversee a total of 194 outlets across the archipelago.<\/p>\n
Dr. Shah Mahir, Managing Director of State Pharma, confirmed that the corporation has already initiated the direct importation and distribution of pharmaceuticals. To support a seamless transition, the company is finalizing its IT infrastructure. “Preparations for supplies and consumables are underway, and we expect the electronic management system to be fully operational before July,” Dr. Mahir stated.<\/p>\n
A core objective of this corporate consolidation is resolving historic inefficiencies in drug availability. To modernize inventory tracking and build public trust, State Pharma is developing a real-time digital tracking portal. This platform will provide unprecedented transparency into the national medical stockpile, allowing the public to monitor live stock levels and verify the availability of specific medications across the state-run network.<\/p>\n
To complement the operational restructuring and improve customer service, State Pharma has launched a dedicated consumer hotline, 1050.
