Visit Maldives Corporation has reported its strongest self-generated income in eight years. The corporation announced the result at its Annual General Meeting. Shareholders reviewed and approved the Annual Report and audited financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2025.<\/p>\n
The corporation earned USD 2.11 million in self-generated income last year. That figure marks the highest annual total in eight years. VMS raised the money through membership contributions, international trade fairs, roadshows, publications, and other commercial work. The mix points to wider stakeholder engagement and a more diverse revenue base.<\/p>\n
A record year for tourism<\/p>\n
The AGM framed 2025 as a landmark year for the industry. The Maldives welcomed more than two million tourists, hitting the milestone earlier than ever before. Tourism receipts topped USD 5.57 billion. That total represents a 16.4% rise on the previous year.<\/p>\n
The corporation supported these gains through destination campaigns, trade engagement, strategic partnerships, media outreach, and digital promotion across key global markets.<\/p>\n
Chairperson points to collaboration<\/p>\n
Board chairperson Abdulla Giyas Riyaz credited the wider industry for the year’s results. He said the achievements showed the strength of Maldivian tourism and the value of working with government bodies, industry players, and international partners. He added that the record financial result reflected stronger engagement and commercial growth, while the broader success lay in backing an industry that keeps delivering economic value and protects the country’s standing as a top destination.<\/p>\n
Governance gets an overhaul<\/p>\n
The meeting reviewed major governance changes. In July 2025, a Presidential Decree rebranded the body from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation to Visit Maldives Corporation. The change signalled a fresh institutional direction and stronger global positioning.<\/p>\n
The Board stayed busy through the period. Directors held 30 meetings, adopted 70 board resolutions, and passed 59 circular resolutions. Two Extraordinary General Meetings approved the name change and the expansion of the Board from seven to nine directors.<\/p>\n
Awards and global reach<\/p>\n
The Maldives collected major honours during the year. The destination won World’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards for the sixth year running. It also took World’s Leading Green Destination for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n
The marekting programme ran deep. The corporation delivered 46 destination campaigns, 27 collaborative initiatives, and 14 familiarization trips. It joined 16 international trade fairs and ran 27 public relations activities across key source markets.
