This presidential discretion comes directly from the Maldives Constitution and the Foreign Service Act.<\/p>\n<p>Following the formal submission, the matter has been referred to the Parliament&#8217;s Foreign Relations Committee for review. Thoriq&#8217;s appointment will become set in stone once the committee concludes its evaluation and the nomination is approved by a majority vote in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Thoriq, a veteran in environmental policy and renewable energy, has served as the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy before his appointment as the Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).<\/p>\n<p>The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is a prominent intergovernmental organization headquartered in Abu Dhabi, comprising 169 member states along with the European Union (EU).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed Ambassador Thoriq Ibrahim as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
