State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) unveiled their ‘green’ initiative of planting a total of 6,000 trees in all of the residential islands where the utility company provides service.<\/p>\n

The initiative was launched on Tuesday, 15th February, at Hulhumale’ powerhouse operated by STELCO. The ceremony was officiated by the attending chief guest Mr. Ahmed Saleem – the parliament member for the Hoarafushi constituency and the Head Chair of parliament’s Environment and Climate Change Committee.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the ceremony was graced by STELCO’s Managing Director Mr. Hassan Mughnee along with the corporation’s Deputy Managing Director Dr. Ali Azwar. The attendees had planted Maldivian palm trees at the powerhouse vicinity.<\/p>\n

The green initiative was initially launched back in 2019, and so far the utility provider has planted more than 10,000 plants in various islands. Under the initiative, STELCO planted 2,000 trees during 2019 and another 3,000 during 2020 despite the challenges faced over the Covid-19 pandemic while in 2021 the corporation planted 5,000 trees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
