Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has officially introduced the new currency sign for Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR).<\/p>\n
The newly unveiled official sign for the currency sign of Rufiyaa is the Dhivehi “Thaana” letter “Raa” with an additional horizontal stroke.<\/p>\n
The new currency sign was unveiled during a special ceremony held at the MMA headquarters on Sunday, 03rd July. The sign was officially introduced by the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Ms. Aminath Shauna.<\/p>\n
A total of over 70 design proposals were submitted to the central bank when it had announced for interested parties to design the concept for the official sign of Maldivian currency.<\/p>\n
The winning design, done by one Mr. Hassan Shujau, was finalized through a special judges’ panel that had evaluated through all the proposed designs.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the design was selected for its minimal approach and the utilization of Dhivehi lettering for the concept.<\/p>\n
At the unveiling ceremony, Minister Shauna noted that the usage of a Dhivehi letter as the symbol representing Maldivian currency should be an honor for all. In addition to this, she had stressed on ramping up efforts to integrate the sign into all necessary digital platforms.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Maldives Governor Mr. Ali Hashim has confirms efforts of public familiarization to the currency symbol. He also addressed on the central bank’s commitment to encourage utilization of the symbol in prospective uses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
