Male’ City Council unveiled illustrations depicting the planned development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu; the city’s surrounding and outer-most road.<\/p>\n
The council released four pictures via Twitter, digital renderings of the proposed changes to the route. The developments include date palms running across the full length of the road, from the south side of the city. Date palms are not native to the Maldivian soil, and the pictures show these trees planted in equal distances; lined alongside the harbor sidewalk.<\/p>\n
Though not grown fully, date palms have been planted from in designated ‘plant boxes’ running the entire length of the road on the city’s south side. The ‘boxes’; cement boxes built around the trunk of the trees.<\/p>\n
Additional to the palms, the digital renderings also show flowering plants complimenting the palms, inside each of these ‘plant boxes.’<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the council notes its decision to plant date palms came after consulting experts in the field.<\/p>\n
Details of this initiative have not been made public by the council. However, the council opened to bid in acquiring the palms.<\/p>\n
The council is aiming to plant 100,000 trees across Male’ City; the country’s capital largely known for its tree-scarce and concrete environment. Earlier, mango trees were planted running the length of Ameenee Magu.
