State Electric Company (STELCO) Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said the company will propose an additional allowance to female employees applying for technical positions.<\/p>\n

According to Shareef, the company’s management will submit the proposal to its board of directors for a decision.<\/p>\n

Shareef made the announcement during the ceremony held to celebrate the International Women’s Day, welcoming the Islamic month of Ramadan, and the lucky draw event to award Hajj and Umrah trips to four of its employees.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, Shareef highlighted the company had a higher number of male employees. Shareef said that the company currently employed over 1,500 employees out of which about 20% are female employees.<\/p>\n

He also stressed that though the workforce consisted of a significant amount of female employees, they are relatively less employed in technical positions. Speaking in this regard, Shareef added that the lack of female employees in technical positions is not because of lack of opportunities, but rooted in conventional notions that electricity works are done only by men.<\/p>\n

“I would like to invite the females enthusiastic about applying for technical positions in the company, and say that they are most welcome. I invite them to become engineers, electricians, technicians, and even work at our powerhouse units. Hopefully, and in a not too distant future, we expect to provide such females with an additional allowance which we will submit to the board,” Shareef said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
