The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort and Reefscapers Maldives has celebrated the World Earth Day 2023.<\/p>\n
The luxury tourist property organized the first-ever local resort and community coral restoration event in the Maldives, in collaboration with Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo Council and the Eco Friends Club of Dhaalu Atoll School.<\/p>\n
St. Regis Maldives aimed to increase the awareness among the local community and youth about emerging threats to coral reefs and the importance of ecosystem preservation.<\/p>\n
The event included an awareness session by the resort’s resident marine biologist Hazel Araujo, for a group of 17 students from Dhaalu Atoll School. The students prepared two coral frames with 130 coral fragments and submerged them in the house reef of Kudahuvadhoo for propagation.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the event included a beach cleanup activity where participants had collected and disposed of plastic and other waste to reduce their negative impact on the marine environment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
