The housing flats developed by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 are undergoing significant repairs just months after the first batch of residents moved in.<\/p>\n
Since the first batch of MACL employees and their families moved into the flats in October 2022, there have been numerous complaints about various issues tied to the buildings’ structure. The complaints have prompted notable repairs to address the concerns of the residents.<\/p>\n
According to complaints, the most reported issue by several residents is the leakage of water from the balconies into the living area during heavy rain. Additionally, some apartments have experienced drainage issues while in other cases, water leakage has caused irreversible damage to the furniture.<\/p>\n
Besides water leakage, some residents have complained about smell leakage from kitchen hoots to adjoining apartments.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, an MACL official confirmed that the building contractor was notified of, and subsequently has started working on resolving the issues.<\/p>\n
“Eve now, several of these apartments have been repaired,” the official said.<\/p>\n
The MACL housing towers were developed under the Hiyaa Social Housing initiative during former Maldives President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.<\/p>\n
Under the project, MACL contracted China’s Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) for the development of two 14-storey buildings housing 384 apartment units.
