{"id":7587,"date":"2023-12-17T14:16:27","date_gmt":"2023-12-17T09:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=7587"},"modified":"2023-12-17T14:16:27","modified_gmt":"2023-12-17T09:16:27","slug":"tourism-minister-assures-resolving-cruise-liner-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbt.mv\/?p=7587","title":{"rendered":"Tourism Minister assures resolving cruise liner issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has promised to provide solutions for the issues related to cruise liners.<\/p>\n<p>The previous government implemented a new regulation stipulating tax levies per room in cruise liners, which created difficulties in the cruise liner segment of tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Maldives Association of Yacht Agents (MAYA) protested against this stating that the decision resulted in cruises opting for other neighboring destinations instead of the island nation.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Tourism via X said that the previous administration&#8217;s decision would be rectified to provide a permanent solution.<\/p>\n<p>The regulation was implemented earlier in September which demanded a 16% GST per room per night from cruise liners.<\/p>\n<p>According to MAYA, taxing from each charter separately was an illogical and fiscally unrealistic approach.
