State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) announces decision to reopen the closed road entitled ‘Dhonadharaadha Hingun’ which currently houses engines of the utility provider.<\/p>\n
The road, that runs south from Ameenee Magu connects to the outer-most road, Boduthakurufaanu Magu, which also runs the full perimeter of the city.<\/p>\n
STELCO said the road would reopened ahead of Ramadan, that coincides with March 2024, after making the necessary alterations to the premises.<\/p>\n
The road, which lies next to STELCO’s compound was closed in 2010 to extend the area of the utility company’s premises, and install the generators. The generators were installed to increase the power output capacity for the growing demand of Male’ City then.<\/p>\n
However, the generators have been relocated to the old powerhouse building in Hulhumale’ as a backup for the Greater Male’ area.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony held to officiate works to reopen the road, STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy said reopening of the road would alleviate congestion in the area.<\/p>\n
“God willing, our efforts to reopen the road would be completed before Ramadan. With that said, I would like to reiterate STELCO’s commitment to serve the public, our company was founded on that principle; to provide this basic necessity, and as such we perceive this as a required service of all,” Fahmy said.<\/p>\n
STELCO further said its employees were handling the road reopening, directly instead of commissioning it to Male’ City Council.
