Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurates the Fushidhiggaru Falhu reclamation project; dubbed RasMale’.<\/p>\n
The reclamation project is managed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).<\/p>\n
President Muizzu said the project would be completed within eight months, and pledged 65,000 units of housing inclusive of flats and land plots. The initiative is one of the most important pledges of Dr. Muizzu during his presidential campaign.<\/p>\n
The project involves the reclamation of 1,280 hectares of land along with the allocation of 11,000 land plots and 26,000 flats from the area. The new island, built as an eco-city would be connected to the central city of Male’ via a bridge and a high-speed ferry service.<\/p>\n
Held as the most ambitious plan of President Muizzu, focuses on delivering a permanent solution to the housing crises experienced in the Greater Male’ Region.<\/p>\n
While speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Muizzu said that the city would adhere to the most modern internationally accepted standards under the Safe Island concept. The island would be three meters high in the center and two meters high around the edges.<\/p>\n
President Muizzu further promised his vision of making RasMale’ as the country’s first zero-carbon city where only environmentally friendly vehicles would be allowed for transportation.<\/p>\n
The city would reportedly be powered with renewable energy, and would have easy access to public services especially for persons with disabilities. President further said that a world-class high-speed transportation system would be established between RasMale’ and Male’ City.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the same ceremony, the Managing Director of HDC Fazul Rasheed vowed to expedite the reclamation project.<\/p>\n
Fazul promised HDC would fully support the implementation of the President’s manifesto, and assured that the administration’s largest housing project would be completed quickly and efficiently.
