Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announces the reclamation of Hulhumale’ Phase 3 resumes.<\/p>\n
Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC) was contracted the reclamation project, to dredge and reclaim a total of 63 hectares of land.<\/p>\n
So far 23 hectares of land have been reclaimed under the project, that initially began in September last year. The project was put on hold due to the mass coral bleaching event Maldives experienced, and following the subsequent order by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to stop all ongoing dredging and land reclamation events across the Maldives until further notice.<\/p>\n
CMCC began reclamation for the remaining 40 hectares of land after receiving EPA approval.<\/p>\n
While the reclamation project has resumed, the efforts are challenged by the vessels still docked at the channel where dredging and reclamation are set. Despite multiple notices to vessel owners to relocate the ships and boats elsewhere, a few of them have still been left unattended in the Phase 3 channel.<\/p>\n
HDC has urged all vessel owners and proprietors to remove the vessels quickly.<\/p>\n
The land reclamation project aims to provide housing solutions to address the difficulties faced by residents of Greater Male’ area.
