Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has participated in an investment roundtable meet organized by the US Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
The minister is currently visiting the US on an official trip, which he earlier highlighted would focus on enhancing business and investment opportunities between the Maldives and the US.
At Wednesday’s US-Maldives Business Roundtable, the minister’s delegation met with representatives of the US corporate sector for talks, though details of it have not been disclosed so far.
Besides his meeting with the US Chamber of Commerce, the minister is also expected to meet with other trade representatives and government agencies during his visit.
Minister Saeed he will provide details about the discussions after his return to the Maldives.
In late June the Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer made an official visit to the States as well, where he met with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to discuss strengthening cooperative and bilateral ties between the two nations.
While two ministers have visited the States, a US senator recently submitted a bill to the Senate seeking a total cut of its aid to the Maldives in light of the island nation government’s decision to bar entry to Israeli passport holders.
