Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company’s (MIFCO) latest inclusion to its fleet, titled “Jazeera 106” expects arrival in the Maldives on November 19, according to the company.
The vessel embarked from Thailand last Saturday for the Maldives and is currently on its way.
MIFCO’s “Jazeera” line of fish-weighing vessels have a freezing storage capacity of 60 tons with another 200 tons of storage. The latest addition to MIFCO’s fleet is expected to drive up the company’s fish purchase capacity up to 180 tons per day.
MIFCO earlier acquired four vessels to its fleet in a bid to address difficulties faced local fishers in selling their catch during fishing season.
The company first acquired “Jazeera 103” on March 2023, which is currently active in the south of the Maldives. The vessel has a cold storage capacity of 120 metric tons with a total storage capacity of 420 metric tons.
MIFCO says it has added six vessels into the fleet, inclusive of one carrier boat, in the last five years.
The company further highlighted ongoing efforts to expand fish purchasing volume in Koodoo Fisheries Complex with a target of increasing freezing capacity up to 120 tons per shift.
Additionally, the company is currently working on developing the first fisheries complex in Thinadhoo as well. The complex reportedly will have a freezing capacity of 120 tons per shift and a cold storage unit of 1,000 tons.
