The Chairperson of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Aysha Nurain Janah has officially resigned from her post.
Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) on Thursday morning confirmed Nurain’s resignation of its official X handle. PCB added Nurain tendered her resignation on Wednesday.
The board also said it had “accepted her resignation” and accordingly removed her from the position.
Despite abrupt resignation move, neither Nurain nor any government source commented the reason for her exit.
Nurain is the daughter of prominent entrepreneur and the Principal Advisor on Trade Investment to the President, Mohamed Ali Janah. She was appointed as MMPRC’s Chairperson, the tourism board of the Maldives, on December 07, 2023.
Nurain gained popularity following an interview she gave to some international news outlets during the ITB Berlin 2024 – the world’s largest tourism trade fair – held earlier in March.
Her eloquence and quick responses to the questions pointed by the media correspondent, drew praise from both the public and industry stakeholders.
Moreover, some netizens had also launched endorsements calling to appoint her as either the MMPRC Managing Director of Tourism Minister as well.
Additionally, several local media reported of tensions within the Tourism Ministry and the MMPRC following Nurain’s interview, but were denied by the Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal.
