The Moroccan Ambassador to the Maldives, Mr. Mohamed Maliki opens the first Moroccan Consulate General in the Republic of Maldives on Tuesday, 19th July 2022.
The Consulate General of Morocco will boost the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, said Maliki during the opening ceremony. Maldives and Morocco enjoys a long-standing spiritual and cultural relationship, which came officially consolidated with diplomatic ties in 1988.
Mr. Maliki was joined by the Foreign Secretary of the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmed Latheef in inaugurating the consulate’s headquarters with a Moroccan flag hoist.
At the ceremony, prominent Maldivian businessman Ahmed Nashid, founder of the ADK General Trading and ADK Hospital is appointed as the Honorary Consul of Morocco in the Maldives.
Morocco offers 90-days visas upon-arrival to Maldivians, paramount of the diplomatic relationship between the countries.
The island nation continues to show unwavering support to Morocco’s relentfless efforts for territorial integrity and sovereignty in the Western Sahara.
