The Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed said on Wednesday, December 13, that the current administration’s goal is to provide housing for all residents living in Male’ region in the next five years.
While speaking at the ceremony held to showcase model apartments of the ‘Amaan Dhoadhi’ project by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), Haidar said the project will help curtail the housing predicament faced by Male’ region residents.
He also said that while 4,000 people will receive apartments as part of the social housing scheme launched by the previous administration, new housing projects are in the pipe for commencement under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s housing pledges.
“Our goal is that by the time our five years are up, there is no family or household in the Male’ area that has not received housing. We will be working towards that goal,” Haidar said.
Besides Hulhumale’ and Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru will also be used for new housing projects soon. The minister said that the Fushidhiggarufalhu project is part of a larger 20-year plan, with the aim of creating a new satellite town in Male’ region.
Fushidhiggarufalhu is President Dr. Muizzu’s most ambitious housing project, but it was omitted out from the 2024 State Budget allocations by the Parliament’s Budget Review Committee in favor of expediting ongoing development initiatives.
