Qatar Airways Group and Malaysia Aviation Group have broadened their partnership with recent MoU.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo, the cargo subsidiary of Malaysian Aviation Group, aims to enhance the cargo service offerings and operational synergies. This alliance builds on the expanded codeshare agreement from 2022 between Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines.
“Our new MoU with Malaysia Aviation Group is testament to our deepening relations with Malaysia and the integral APAC market, said Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, the Chief Executive of Qatar Airways Group.
“This strategic cooperation with our oneworld partner will serve to link our freighter and belly-hold networks with our cargo product offering and capacity, allowing us to further cement our relationship and foster the close links between our airlines.”
The airlines intends to utilize the combined network strengths and fleet capacities to enhance cargo services, with MASkargo benefitting from access to the extensive global network of Qatar Airways Cargo.
On the other hand, Qatar Airways Cargo will expand its reach into the growing APAC market.
“Expanding our partnership with Qatar Airways Cargo marks a significant milestone for MASkargo. This collaboration will not only enhance our product offering and operational capabilities but also solidify our position in the global cargo market,” said Captain Izham Ismail, the Group Managing Director of Malaysian Aviation Group.
Both carriers will use Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) as key hubs to support their combined networks.
Moreover, the partnership aligns the growth strategies of both airlines. Qatar Airways Cargo, has the launch customer for the Boeing 777-8 freighter, has secured 34 aircraft with options for 16 more while Malaysia Airlines added 20 new A330neo aircraft for passenger services.
