Maldives state collected a total of MVR96.59 million in green tax for the month of May 2022, reported the Ministry of Finance.
Green tax is levied on all tourism properties, at a rate of USD6.00 per day on tourist resorts, vessels and hotels and USD3.00 per day on guesthouses. All tourism properties in accordance with the Maldives Tax Act are liable for green tax automatically upon registration of the properties at Ministry of Tourism.
According to the latest Green Fund Report from the Ministry of Finance, Kaafu atoll collected the highest revenue in green tax; which was reported at MVR10.2 million.
The second highest earning came from Raa atoll with a reported green tax income of MVR7.3 million and third highest from Baa atoll MVR7.1 million.
Fourth highest green tax income was reported from Dhaal atoll at MVR6.9 million and the fifth highest was reported from Alif Alif atoll at MVR6.8 million.
Revenue collected from green tax comprises the Green Fund of the Maldives state, which is allocated to various infrastructural and developmental projects across the administrative atolls in the country.
