The Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Mr. Ahmed Shareef cautions of possible utility bill hikes for the following three-month period.
The STELCO front-man made the projection during an interview with Public Service Media’s (PSM) “Raajje Miadhu” program.
Upon taking chair as STELCO’s honcho, Shareef began evaluating the billing procedure of the utility company for the last five-year period. He comments, of finding usage deductions from billed amount, a move, he says is done to reduce the final billed amount to the customer.
Speaking about the issue, he also highlights a 22-day duration between the date of billing and its creation; which Shareef said creates backlogs in the procedure.
Mr. Shareef made affirmations to drop the current billing approach in favor of real-time billing and avoid further backlogs.
The real-time bills will reportedly accrue electricity usage in every 32-days, which Shareef cautions will increment the final billed amount.
Despite the cautionary tale heads-upped by the STELCO front-man, he assures global oil fluctuations will not reflect on the utility bills.
