The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said that with the development of new parking avenues, the Velana International Airport (VIA) is ready for tourism peak season.
A press release by MACL said VIA has leveraged its new parking slots (RAMP areas) at the international airport venue to prepare for the winter tourism peak which would be able to accommodate a total of 68 jets; a historic number for the airport. MACL further said the accomplishment was testament to the efficiency and capacity enhancements brought about by the newly designated parking areas for the General Aviation aircraft.
Before the new parking slots were developed, VIA had the capacity to accommodate 39 aircraft. With the more recent addition of parking slots in front of the new fuel farm at the southwest corner of VIA, the airport’s capacity for parked aircraft has doubled.
VIA currently consists 13 parking slots at the North Apron, 26 at the East Apron, 13 at the new GA parking in front of the new fuel farm and 16 at the new GA parking in south.
This expansion has been facilitated by MACL’s development of 27,257 square-meters of parking area on the southwest side of 27,590 square-meters of parking in the north – in front of the new fuel farm.
