The tourist arrivals to the Maldives continue with its steady trajectory, as it was reported that the annual total of guests flocking to the island nation has crossed over 838,000 by the end of the first week of July 2022.
Ministry of Tourism, the mandated government body on tourism industry and tourist movement reported a total count of 838,225 holidaymakers visiting the Indian Ocean archipelago by 06th July 2022.
Tourist arrivals in annual terms has recorded a 59.3% increment, in comparison with the same period in 2021 during which tourist arrivals were recorded at a total of 526,080.
Despite this, tourist arrivals in the review year still remain 5.4% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019, during which a total of 886,177 arrivals were recorded for the corresponding period.
The average duration of guest stay in annual terms stood at 8.1 days, while during the first week of July, average duration of stay improved from 7.7 days in June to 8.1 days.
The rankings of the top source market countries remain unchanged, and the details are as follows;
- India – 123,687 arrivals (14.8%)
- United Kingdom – 98,621 arrivals (11.8%)
- Russia – 84,570 arrivals (10.1%)
- Germany – 68,818 arrivals (8.2%)
- Italy – 49,828 arrivals (5.9%)
- United States – 40,426 arrivals (4.8%)
- France – 30,085 arrivals (3.6%)
- Switzerland – 18,804 arrivals (2.2%)
- Saudi Arabia – 18,734 arrivals (2.2%)
- Spain – 16,642 arrivals (2.0%)
The total bed capacity of the island nation at operational status is currently at 57,487 which includes 164 tourist resorts, 842 guesthouses and hotels, and 150 safari vessels.
