Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has underscored that the fight against corruption is not merely a legal obligation but a moral duty that protects the rights of every citizen. He made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the International Forum on Integrity 2025.
Addressing a gathering of more than 180 participants, including representatives from anti-corruption organisations of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member nations, the Vice President highlighted the significance of this year’s forum theme: “Strengthening Integrity and Combating Corruption in the Tourism Sector.” He described it as both timely and highly relevant.
He stressed that integrity and ethical tourism play a crucial role in fostering investor confidence and community trust. “Transparency and accountability are essential for sustainability, strengthening global reputation, and fostering long-term growth—especially in maintaining the Maldives’ status as a premier tourism destination,” the Vice President said.
Focusing on the importance of collaborative efforts, he acknowledged the key roles played by governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organisations. He called for the establishment of clear policies, effective monitoring systems, enforcement mechanisms, and regular evaluations to ensure integrity practices are not only upheld but continuously enhanced.
The Vice President also advocated for the development of systems that empower whistleblowers and protect those who expose misconduct. “Integrity must be the standard, not the exception,” he stated, adding that anti-corruption institutions must remain independent, well-resourced, and insulated from political influence.
In recognition of the Maldives’ enduring friendship and shared commitment to mutual cooperation, His Excellency Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority of Saudi Arabia, presented the Vice President with a token of appreciation.
The two-day forum continues to serve as a platform for dialogue, innovation, and shared strategies among anti-corruption agencies across OIC member states.
